We are a clinical resource center providing service to individuals, organizations, business and communities. Our services include individuals, couples, child and group psychotherapy, and utilize community resources for alternative and complementary medicine.

Our therapeutic approaches to healing the mind, body and spirit combine thorough grounding in clinical skills with the arts, imagery, movement, and meditation to reduce stress, depression, loss and grief, and enhance creativity and well-being.

The Union Street Health Associates, Inc. focuses on the interaction between the mind and body, and spirit and how they affect psychological and physical health. We use the arts, movement and imagery to promote our natural capacity to know ourselves and to improve our health and well-being.

At the Union Street Health Associates, we believe in the innate tendency of all living things to heal themselves. We work with the natural healing life force of mind, body and spirit to restore and maximize health. Using holistic care, we empower people to be creative participants in their own healing process. Participants in our groups have observed expanded aliveness, self-awareness, and resiliency.

What We Practice

At Union Street Health Associates, Inc., we provide an opportunity to discover your own healing stories, imagination, and soul in everyday life.

We help people create their own healing rituals and rites of passage for medical, psychological or spiritual difficulties, and take charge of their lives and medical care.

We work with children to explore issues of body image, self-esteem, and hyperactivity.

We provide personalized psychotherapy for those in major life transitions such as career, relationships and facing or recovering from life-threatening illnesses.

Ilene A. Serlin, Ph.D

Dr. Ilene Serlin is a clinical psychologist and registered dance/movement therapist. She is the founder and Director of Union Street Health Associates and the Arts Medicine Program at California Pacific Medical Center. She is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, Past President and Council Representative of the Division of Humanistic Psychology of the American Psychological Association, on the Editorial Boards of the Arts in Psychotherapy, the Journal of Dance Therapy, and the Journal of Humanistic Psychology, and has taught and published widely in the US and abroad.

Dr. Serlin's approach draws on her extensive background of training and experience in dance and the arts, Gestalt and depth psychotherapy, and behavioral medicine. She has been dancing for 40 years and trained in Labanatation with Irmgard Bartenieff. She studied and taught with Laura Perls at the New York Gestalt Institute, did her pre-doctoral internship at the Children's Clinic of the C.G. Jung Institute of Los Angeles, and taught at UCLA Lesley College, Saybrooke Graduate School, and the California School of Professional Psychology.

Appointments
Editorial Board of PsycCRITIQUES - Dr. Serlin was appointed to the Editorial Board of PsycCRITIQUES, the APA journal that reviews new books and films that deal with psychology.

APA Membership Committee - Dr. Ilene Serlin was elected by the Council of Representatives of the American Psychological Association to serve a three-year term on APA's Membership Committee.
